Dental Emergency in Busan: What to Do First

First-aid steps for a sudden toothache, a chipped tooth, a lost filling or crown, and swelling, plus how to tell when it can wait and when to seek care right away.

What should I do right away for a dental emergency?

Sudden toothache: Rinse with warm water and take over-the-counter pain relief as directed on the label. Don't place aspirin or any medication directly on the gum — it can irritate the tissue.

Chipped or broken tooth: Save any pieces you can find, rinse your mouth gently, and avoid chewing on that side.

Lost filling or crown: Keep it if you can, and avoid sticky or hard foods until a dentist can check it.

Swelling: Apply a cold compress to the outside of your face for short periods. Avoid heat, which can make swelling worse.

When can it wait, and when should I seek care right away?

Go to the emergency room or call 119 (Korea's emergency number) right away if you have swelling that affects swallowing or breathing, a fever along with dental pain, or heavy bleeding or serious injury to the face or mouth. These can be signs of a spreading infection or a serious injury.

Call a dentist promptly if pain is severe and not relieved by medication, if swelling is spreading, or if a tooth has been knocked loose or out of place.

It can usually wait a few days for a scheduled appointment if you have mild sensitivity, a small painless chip, or a lost filling without discomfort.

How can I reach Family Dental Clinic?

Call +82-51-517-4441. The clinic works by appointment, so calling ahead — even for an urgent problem — lets us see you as soon as a slot is available. If you need help in English over the phone, just let us know. The clinic is a 4-minute walk from Exit 7 of Dusil Station (Busan Metro Line 1). Outside clinic hours, or if symptoms are severe, go to the nearest emergency room rather than waiting.
